1. What is the main theme of The 14th Goldfish?
I believe that the main theme is an optimistic side to things and that believing in the possible is better than the impossible. As stated in chapter 11 it says that scientists try again and again and they believe in themselves. Time and time again the words believing in the possible and everything is possible is revisited throughout the story.
Optimism is also another main part of the story. Ellie and Melvin think about the future and if they are going to be a Nobel Prize winner or if they are going to get the T.Melvinus earlier in the story. This is a part that fits in to make Melvin and Ellie great characters.
These are the main parts of the story but in my opinion believing in the possible is the main motto that is revisited throughout.
2. What is the message of the story?
In The 14th Goldfish I think that the true message is that everything is possible. I think that this is shown through the character of Ellie and that eventually things will get better if you believe in the possible. This is also shown when Melvin as a scientist is trying to save the world by using his anti-aging jellyfish. I think that this is the message of the story because it is shown throughout like the theme. Some people may have different message but this book is thought out so much it obviously has many messages.
Although I think that everything is possible in this book, it is a true showing of possibility.
3. Which character do you think that you relate to the most and why?
I think that I relate to Brianna the most. I think that Brianna believes in herself and never gives up when other people tell her she is not good enough. She keeps trying and shows that people can’t boss her around. I believe that these are great qualities that are necessary in life and should not be ignored.
